A Volunteer’s Story

It was cool to come to ICI, not only to be part of the ministry but to have the opportunity to stay overnight there as well. When we were at ICI, our whole week was ICI—we were fully plugged into ICI, their children and youth programming, events, and life. It was cool to see ICI’s mission and vision, and I fell in love with it and seeing ICI’s history.

My mom went to Moody Bible Institute in the ’80s, and her Practical Christian Ministry (PCM) volunteer placement from Moody was at ICI. It was so fun to be here and know that we both have a connection to the ministry. It was crazy to think that ICI has a history in this neighborhood for even longer, and it’s amazing to see that God’s still working through the ministry.

Seeing how ICI invests in the neighborhood and goes to them is unique. The youth group kids from Kent City Baptist got into a new and entirely different culture, which was neat. Some of us had never been in the city or such an urban context and had never seen cultures outside their own. I got to see everyone branch out and gain more experiences and perspective.

“We were serving the students here at ICI, but ICI was also investing in our students and helping them learn what ministry looks like and what being the hands and feet of Christ actually looks like.”
